Exploration On The Types Of Meritorious Statesmen In Tang Dynasty

Meritorious statesmen is a kind of important strength in the political power construction of feudal dynasty, the rising and constructing of the dynasty all reflect the achievements of the meritorious statesmen. The emerging meritorious statesmen in the three hundred’s Tang dynasty are numerous, diversified and of different roles. This paper took meritorious statesmen in Tang dynasty as the research object, and divided the meritorious statesmen into 4 groups according to their specific contributions, respectively are founding meritorious statesmen, supporting meritorious statesmen, rehabilitating meritorious statesmen, defending meritorious statesmen. This paper took special subjects to study each kind of meritorious statesmen and formed its own systems. The conclusion part briefly discussed other meritorious statesmen who made other contributions to Tang dynasty.The first chapter of the paper is about the founding meritorious statesmen, mainly discussed the awarded situation of meritorious statesmen, and analyzed the relations between the titles of "Taiyuan Yuanmou", "Taiyuan Yuancong" and "Martial virtue meritorious statesmen". The second chapter mainly discussed the supporting meritorious statesmen. Based on the redefinition, the supporting meritorious statesmen before and after An Lushan Rebellion and their features are analyzed, and the relations between the "supporting meritorious statesmen" and "conferring meritorious statesmen" were compared. The third chapter mainly discussed the rehabilitating meritorious statesmen, the outbreak of An Lushan Rebellion which changed the Tang dynasty from flourish to decadence, and the later occurred Zhu Zi Rebellion and the Huang Chao Uprising. This chapter took these three events as the representative to summarize the rehabilitating meritorious statesmen and retinue meritorious statesmen and analyze their features. The fourth chapter discussed the defending meritorious statesmen, this group mainly divided into three types, namely group of crusading against Tujue, group of breaking through the Tibetan, group of conquering other national minorities, and then expounded their indelible contributions to the consolidation of political power of Tang dynasty and analyzed their typical features. In the final conclusion, this paper briefly summarized other meritorious statesmen in Tang dynasty, including the adviser, excellent performance officers, and history registrars. They assisted the emperor and made great performances in their job positions, their contributions were directly related to the implementation of national political policies, social development and power stability. The functions and contributions of the meritorious statesmen in Tang dynasty are different; they all have their own unique features, but all have the contemporaneity features of Tang dynasty.
