As a report on English-to-Chinese (E-C) translation of children’s literature, this dissertation is based on the translation task of the book Squinty, the Comical Pig conducted by the author, the original version of which is one of the five books concerning animal adventurous stories published in the U.S. by Barse & Hopkins Press in 1915. Based on the text of the book Squinty, the Comical Pig, this translation report attaches great importance to the review of translation process, discusses translation strategies of E-C children’s literature translation, summarizes typical translation difficulties in the task and as well gives possible solutions. In reviewing the translation task, this report mainly describes the translation preparation, which includes translation theory preparation, analysis of the original text, analysis of the target readers and translation scheduling. The report introduces translation strategies of E-C children’s literature translation through case analysis, including how to represent child-friendly language in the target text by using Chinese reduplication, onomatopoeia, interjection, four-character structure and lexical variation; how to increase readability of the target text by scenic amplification and adaptation; and how to make foreign culture acceptable to target readers by modest foreignization or even total domestication.Three particular issues as "Author’s Commentary Remarks", "Imprecision of the Source Text (ST) " and "Uniformity of the Names" are put forward in the proofreading stage, and the coping strategies are also discussed in the report.Through the task description and analysis, it is found that the target readers of the book are children from 7 through 12 years old, since the ST is dialogue-based and event-oriented with easy, plain and vivid linguistic style. In order to hold on to the vivid style of the source text, the use of Chinese reduplication, onomatopoeia, interjection, four-character structures and lexical variation in the Target Text (TT) could represent the characteristics of children’s language, and the use of scenic amplification and adaptation under the guidance of coherent rule and fidelity rule, two main rules of Skopos Theory, will be helpful to add to the vividness of the story and provide children with pleasure of reading. With regard to the cultural disparity, there should be careful consideration about the understanding capacities and cultural background of the target readers. Thus, domestication gets priority over foreignization in children’s literature translation. Moreover, as involved in a complex commercial activity, a translator should on the one hand, guarantee the quality of the TT, and on other hand, keep in close contact with the commissioner, so as to meet the demand and interest of the commissioner.
