With more and more excellent Children’s Literature works being imported into Chinafrom foreign countries, it becomes more impending that our native Children’s literatures needto be introduced to the outside. Therefore, I choose the Children’s Literature work You AreSeven This Year to translate into English. The report is based on the translation of this novel’sexcerpts. Considering the obvious differences between Chinese culture and western culture, Ideal with the translation of culture factors by the two strategies, that is, domestication first andforeignization second with the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory. This is also basedon the current situation of Children’s Literature translation in China and the reality factors thatwe are meeting in the process of exporting the native books. This report is aimed ataccumulating some experience about the translation of cultural factors in Children’sLiterature.The novel was written by Children’s Literature writer Liu Jianping. The writer recordshis son’s life both in school and family at the first year of elementary in form of diary,reflecting the cultural features of the education in contemporary Chinese family. This workwas awarded the Second Session of National Excellent Children’s Literature and Song ChingLing Children’s Literature Award. It is recognized in the contemporary Children’s literaturesfield.The translation practice report includes four parts. First, it is the brief introduction to thetranslation task. It introduces the article source, the writer’s basic information and his otherworks, and briefly describes the excerpt. Second, it is about the preparation and the analysis of the material before translation, including article reading, the analysis of Children’sLiteratures’ features, searching and learning the valuable translation theory. And it alsointroduces the strategies and tools used in the process. Third, it is the case analysis. Itconcretely analyzes the application of the Functional Equivalence Theory in the translating ofChildren’s Literature, especially the cultural factors. Forth, it is the summary of the translationpractice, concluding the gains and the problems that I got during the process.Through this practice, I realize the difficulty to deal with the cultural factors in thetranslation of Children’s Literature, and find the shortcomings of my translation. Thetranslator’s knowledge about both Chinese and western cultures will directly affect the qualityof the translation. The Chinese Children’s Literatures being exported to the foreign countriesexpresses a greater requirement to Chinese translators.
