| This is a translation report. The selected text is an excerpt from Awake and Dreaming which is a children’s book written by Kit Pearson, a Canadian female writer. The text mainly tells that the heroine holds fast to her dream of finding her own warm family in spite of suffering many failures. The writer translates the prologue and the first chapter of the book into Chinese.On the basis of translation practice, the translator makes a discussion on the regularities and characteristics of the translation of children’s literature and gives case analysis on the lexical,syntactical and textual levels. On the lexical level, the onomatopoeias, descriptive words and reduplications are analyzed in details; On the syntactical level, the translator discusses the syntactic patterns which are easily accepted by the children readers. On the textual level, the translator mainly studies the regularities and characteristics of translation from two aspects:cohesion and coherence.This translation report consists of four parts. The first part is the description of the translation task about the source and the features of the text. The second part is the process of translation including the preparation stage, the translation stage and the proofreading stage. The third part is case analysis of the translation on lexical, syntactic and textual levels, meanwhile,the translator summarizes the translation problems that arise from the translation process and the translation methods applicable to the process. The fourth part is the conclusion of the translation report. |
