This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of news from foreign media; it describes the working process of the author while she works as an on-line translating intern for China Daily’s Inews website. It introduces the methods and strategies the author has employed in the process of translation under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Under the perspective of Skopos theory, the author discusses methods and strategies of news translation from three levels:lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. On lexical level, translators should pay attention to the choice of meaning and conversion of lexical categories. On syntactic level, much attention should be given to the translation of long sentences, passive voices, and prepositive attributes. For long sentences, translators could rearrange the sentence order, divide the long sentences into short sentences, or just translate in accordance of the source text. For passive voices translators could remain the passive voices in target language or to translate them into a sentence without subject or active voices. And for prepositive attributives, translators could keep the grammatical features or to divide them into short sentences. On discourse level, translators should master the skills of title translation and news body translation, and should seek for the methods to solve the problems which are brought by cultural differences and different use of rhetorical devices. Through the analysis of the author’s translation experience, Skopos Theory could guide the translation of English news into Chinese, and it could illustrate the translation action of translators. In reviewing the translation process, the author comes to three conclusions:(1) Pre-Translation:Before any translation work, translators must completely understand the clients’requirements and the features of the source text, and should master the translation kills and methods of the source text. (2)In Translation Process:For any content that the translators do not understand, they should endeavor to seek out the related information so as to understand the source language accurately and translate them into target language properly. As for language differences between Chinese and English in news reporting, translators should apply proper methods and strategies to cope with the problems in translation. (3)Post-Translation:For any translation, there is room to improve. Therefore, translators should read more to enrich their horizon, to translate more to improve their translation competence. Meanwhile, with the development of science and technology, many translation works could be done by computers. Hence, translators should keep up with the time to master the skills of using computer software to assist translation.
