Based on the previous studies on style and stylistic words (including general studies on stylistic words and the specific studies on written and oral words), through the comparison between written and oral words listed on Modern Chinese Dictionary (the 6th edition), this thesis is going to study the features and discrepancies of the written words and oral words in different aspects such as phonetic, semantic, formation, configuration and grammatical function, and explain the reasons why the discrepancies exist.This thesis is going to reveal the correspondence between written words, oral words and also common words by analyzing the written and oral words recorded on the National Syllabus of Graded Words and Characters for Chinese Proficiency. The correspondences will be categorized by the different types of syllables. Then the writer will make a correspondence table for 128 written words and 86 oral words.This thesis will try to put forward suggestions and strategies for Chinese teaching by applying the theories and also the research result of discrepancy and correspondence.
