As one of the most important journals of tourism research in China, Tourism Tribune, to some extent, not only experiences the development of tourism research in China but reflects the trends of domestic tourism research. Driven by the international strategy, Tourism Tribune gradually has some influence on the international tourism academia, but its English translation research has not been done yet. Two academic papers from Tourism Tribune are selected as the original text to be translated. Based on the translation shifts theory put forward by John Catford, the author makes careful analysis about the difficult points of translation, the purposes of which are to summarize the effective strategies and to enrich the practice skills in academic papers translation. The author makes analysis and summary from the following four aspects. First, the author introduces respectively the project background and the texts of the translation project. Second, three aspects of the translation practice are summarized, namely, the preparation before translation, textual analysis and textual translation. Third, through the in-depth understanding about the concept of "translation shifts" put forward by John Catford, the author explores the methods suited to the translation practice and applies the methods into the practice from the following three aspects which are the structure-shifts, class-shifts and unit-shifts. Fourth, key issues of translating academic papers and the potential problems in translation are discussed respectively in the case studies. Moreover, guided by the translation shifts theory, the author applies the methods which are the structure-shifts, class-shifts and unit-shifts to seek for the corresponding translation strategies in translating the words, sentences and paragraphs in academic papers. Especially in translation of sentences, four problems have been analyzed including the shift between active and passive voice, the shift between topic and subject, the shift between different word classes and the shift between different language units in two languages. Finally, the author makes a summary of the characteristics of academic papers C-E translation and puts forward the expectation for the future study and work.
