Note-taking is one of the most important step in consecutive interpreting,as well as a crucial means to supplement interpreter's memory, thus note-taking is a crucial factor that affects quality of consecutive interpreting. The potential influence of language choice for note-taking in CI on interpreting quality makes it a key subject in studies of note-taking in CI for a long time.Consecutive interpreting tests are conducted with senior English majors form class 1301 in the School of Foreign Language,Lanzhou Jiaotong University as subjects. After Chinese-English and English-Chinese interpreting tests, the subjects' note drafts and recordings are collected and the subjects are required to fill a questionnaire. The thesis answers the research questions and confirms two hypotheses through analyzing note drafts, assessing the subjects' interpreting quality, and further studying the relevance between language choice for note-taking and interpreting quality. The research has three main findings: firstly, the source language is the governing language for undergraduates to take notes in CI tests;secondly, there is relevance between language choice for note-taking and interpreting quality;lastly, problems exist in undergraduates' interpreting training and English learning.Through collecting the data of note drafts and scoring the interpreting products,it is found that the source language is mainly used by the subjects for note-taking.However,a weak negative relevance between the proportion of the source language and the interpreting quality is revealed. In addition, important factors that attribute to the subjects' language choices and generally low interpreting quality are also found in analysis, including listening difficulties in long sentences, lack of background knowledge of interpreting subjects, violation of note-taking principles, lack or unfamiliarity of note-taking system, and lack of proficiency in English listening and expressing.Lastly, suggestions are provided accordingly for the improvement of interpreting training.
