Making a general survey of the past, we can always find that political speeches are playing an important role in the history. In modern times, with the appearance of the simultaneous interpreting, people can in person experience the charm of political speeches of different countries. However, as for simultaneous interpreting for political speeches, there are still lacking in translation strategies at present. The interpreters always fail to efficiently fulfill the coordination effort task in the translation and completely convey the strong argument or ideas of the spokesman. This thesis is a case study of inaugural speech of the U.S. President Barack Obama in 2009 simultaneously interpreted by Phoenix Satellite television. Under the guideline of the Daniel Gile Model, the author analyses and sums up how such four elements as short-term memory limitation, listening and analysis mistake, over-speech production and lack linguistic knowledge affect the coordination effort task of speech translation from the interpreters’ point of view and also expounds the influence of these elements directed at interpreters in return. By utilizing the practical cases, the author explains the reasons for the imbalance of coordination effort and comes up with some effective strategies to deal with the coordination effort and so as to improve interpreters’ efficiency in political speech simultaneous interpreting.
