Interpreting quality or smoothness depends on various factors,such as familiarity with the theme,language proficiency and information processing capacity.as well as speed of the ST(source text)delivery.Study of student performances in interpreting classes offers many insights.It helps to identify and tackle problems in interpreting with many examples available for analysisThis study was based on the Effort Model put forward by Daniel Gile,who argues that simultaneous interpreting quality is connected with interpreters'allocation of individual efforts.It is well-recognized that simultaneous interpreting requires multitasking on the part of interpreters.Whether they can balance their efforts determines the quality of the output.So,it is of relevance to study classroom interpreting from this angleThe case study material is from the Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting class in BFSU.After recording and transcribing the interpretation,the author identified errors and problem triggers and analyzed effort-management failures.Then,the author provided suggestions to improve performance based on the Effort Model Generally speaking,mismanagement in coordination and memory efforts leads to mistakes in interpreting parallel structure and most student still have to improve English listening and speech production to reduce failuresIt is also found that apart from more practice in improving effort management.interpreters have to do background research and know as much as possible about the speaker and the conference to ensure smooth interpreting.
