Analysis Of The Strategies Of Logical Connectors In Simultaneous Interpretation Based On The Functionalism Skopos Theory

Simultaneous interpreting is the hardest one of all kinds of interpretation activities. It requires the ability of listening to a message while interpreting those words into another language. It’s an activity with strong purpose. Functionalism Skopos Theory presented by Vermeer considers that translation is a purpose-oriented activity. Interpreting activity under the guidance of Functionalism Skopos Theory should reach the common understanding and acceptance among target language audiences so as to achieve the full delivery of the message.Due to characteristic differences between the implicit of Chinese and the explicit of English, by interpreting literally cannot always deliver the message correctly. Interpreter should figure out the connection of the each message unit of the discourse, use the appropriate strategies to recombinant the message to finish the output of the message. Logical connector can make the invisible relationship among all message units visible. Applying the appropriate strategies of logical connector during interpretation can be very influential to the delivery of the message.Based on Functionalism Skopos Theory, the thesis illustrates the main content of the Skopos Theory and its application in the interpretation area, then taking the logical connector as an breaking point of the thesis by summarizing its classification and its effect on the interpretation discourse. Meanwhile combining the analysis of the speech of Premier Li Keqiang at the Davos Forum, the thesis intend to conclude some proper strategies of logical connector that interpreter used during the process of simultaneous interpretation so as to achieve the full delivery of the message. The interpretation should be understood and accepted by the target language audiences. I hope the thesis will be helpful in the interpretation area in the future.
