C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Strategy From The Perspective Of Skopos

With the deepening exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures,Chinese literary works have attracted more and more attention from all over the world.Speeches addressed by Chinese writers in the world have become an important method for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.And simultaneous interpretation opens a window for communication between different cultures..This speech is characterized with its humorous style.First of all,this speech contains many cultural-loaded words and its content covers many fields.Furthermore,Mo Yan's speaking style is casual and colloquial.How to interpret this speech in an appropriate,smooth and accessible way poses a difficult problem in speech simultaneous interpreting.This speech covers an abundant information,wide-ranging content,and the speaker sometimes speaks in his own dialect,which are all great challenges for interpreters.Guided by Skopos Theory,taking the speech “How did I become a novelist” addressed by Mo Yan in The Open University of Hong Kong as an example,the author studied simultaneous interpreting principles and strategies in light of examples of Mo Yan's speech,in hopes of better getting the speech across to foreigners who are interested in Chinese culture and Chinese language.
