Study On The Chinese Discourse Marker "Hao Le"

Discourse marker, a unique and relatively independent linguistic phenomenon, which has been attracting extensive attentions and further discussions once discovered, has an important implication for us to study the development and characteristic of the linguistic. This article selected the discourse marker, "Hao Le ", which frequently appears in spoken Chinese, as a research object. The major themes are the distribution, placationon, function and grammaticalization of "Hao Le ", all of which are studied in five seperate chapters.The first chapter is an introduction of the current research status of the whole discourse marker system and the "Hao Le ". Furthermore, we describe the research methods, research meaning and value, the source corpus of this article in the chapter.The second chapter analyses the application mode of "Hao Le ". We discuss four different situations of the turn-taking to use "Hao Le ":in the beginning, in the middle, in the end and being used independently. In this discussion we explain the reasons, the objectives, and the usage in different locations. In addition, we introduce a special usage of "Hao Le " when several "Hao Le" use together, and analyze the language strategy and impression of it.The third chapter studies the functions of "Hao Le". "Hao Le " can organize the contexts, which mainly reflected as its functions to create a topic, continue a topic, stop a topic, and change a topic. "Hao Le" also can be treated as a metapragmatic, thus it is of great significance to emphasize and adjust human relations.The forth chapter studies the lexicalization of "Hao Le". We do qualitative analysis to predicate "Hao Le", Complement "Hao Le", modal particle "Hao Le" and discourse marker "Hao Le", and we draw a conclusion that modal particle "Hao Le" was derived from Predicate "Hao Le", the lexicalization of discourse marker "Hao Le" is verb’s dropping in verb-complement that Complement "Hao Le " exists.The fifth chapter is the conclusion. In this part, we summarise this article, and point out the deficiencies of our study.
