A Translation Report On Exploring Translation Theories (Excerpt From Chapter 4 And Chapter 5)

This essay is a report of translation practice,which is excerpted from a book named Exploring Translation Theory written by a internationally renowned translation scholar Anthony Pym.By analyzing the six paradigms: equivalence,purpose,description,uncertainty,localization and cultural translation,this book has further developed the connotation and extension of western translation theories.The chosen translation material,excerpted from chapter 4,elaborated on functional principle put forward by Vermeer,“translator action” theory put forward by Holz-M?ntt?ri,and the “necessary accuracy” principle put forward by H?nig & Kussmaul.The author begins with Toury’s assertion in chapter 5 that “equivalent is the characteristic of all translations” and illustrates two concepts in the paradigm: transformations and systems.As an academic work on translation theory,this book is rigorous in language,extensive in content,and strong in logic.On the basis of text typology theory,it can be inferred that this book is an informative text.When dealing with this type of text,priority should be given to how to convey information accurately in an authentic and readable way.Mainly programmed on the text typology theory,this translation project is structured with communicative translation strategy while sided with semantic translation.Translation techniques such as conversion,ellipsis,positive and negative translation have been employed in this report in the light of different linguistic phenomena built on lexicon,syntax,discourse and culture to produce as nearly as possible the same effect among target readers as in the source readers.Through this translation practice,translation skills have been consolidated though,the translator understand deeply how much complicated procedure a translation task involves that the professional knowledge of translator needs to be enriched in various fields.
