This translation report is based on the translation of The Far East: A Modern History(Chapter 4 and Chapter 5). Chapter 4 mainly introduces the intercourse between the East and West before the 19 th century. Chapter 5 introduces how the Western aggressors broke the door of China under the condition of China’s self-seclusion.This report mainly consists of four sections, namely the task description, translation process, case analyses, and conclusion. In the first section, the author briefly introduces the source, the book and its writer. In the second part, the author introduces the process of preparation, revision and finalization of the draft. As the most important part of the report, case analyses include the present writer’s ideas of translation and various techniques adopted in the translation of 20 examples at both lexical level and syntactic level. What is more, the author also summarizes the translation methods of the punctuation mark—dash in this section. In the last part, the author makes comments on the translation practice.All in all, the translator has learned a lot during the translation process. The experience has not only improved the translator’s ability, but also enabled her realize the importance of responsibility and quality during translation.
