A Report On E-C Translation Practice Of The Upton Letters Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

This is a translation report on The Upton Letters written by Arthur Christopher Benson who was a popular writer and Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge. The Upton Letters is a book of essays which was famous in his day. Logical comments and rational analyses on issues of reading, life and education were made through its beautiful and natural sentences. This translation practice report is based on excerpts from the translated The Upton Letters. The report will give a thorough description of the completion of the translation practice, supported by actual cases or examples from the text, from 4 levels: lexical, semantic, syntactic and stylistic, to show how the translator achieves the equivalent effect by using multiple translation methods.There are four parts in this report. Part one is the translation task description, which describes the task background and task characteristics. Part two is the introduction to the preparation, the process of the translation and the quality control. Part three, the main part of the report, is the case analysis in which analyses are made to show how the methods and strategies are applied to some cases with the functional equivalence theory. Part four concludes the gains and limitations about the translation, and some inspirations and expectations out of the practice are stated.
