This report is based on the translation practice of The Economic Development of Latin America Since Independence(Chapter2), which is a representative work of Jose Antonio Ocampo. In this chapter, Ocampo analyzes the economic development of Latin America since the establishment of young republics in 19 th century from a comprehensive and unique perspective. Meanwhile, the writer also discusses capital flow, inequality and liberation wars resulted in the development of Latin America economy and points out the very basic reasons why Latin America’s economic performance was relatively poor, compared with the advanced countries of that era.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the author explores how to solve problems during the process of translation involving economy. In addition, the author adopts some translation strategies such as literal translation, reorganization, amplification and division to achieve dynamic equivalence between original text and the Chinese version. The translation report consists of four parts. The first part is about general information of the translation project including the introduction of the writer and the book. The second part introduces the process of translation. The third part is about the application of functional equivalence theory and translation strategies. The forth part is the conclusion of this report.
