A Report On The Translation Of The Economic Development Of Latin America Since Independence(Chapter 4)

This thesis is a translation practical report. The source text is The Economic Development of Latin America Since Independence. The author translates chapter four and completes a translation practical report based on it. With the development of global economy, the economic connection is more and more closely among the all areas. The competition among the developing countries leading by the Europe and America are increasingly tense in the area of Latin America. In addition, as China being the biggest developing country in the whole world, the economic relationship between China and the Latin America develops fast. All these features provide a condition on studying the economy of the Latin America, which is important to analyze the trend of the world economy. The author introduces the background and the content of the source text and analyzes the the features of the lexicon and the syntax. The author analyzes the process of translating under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence, and uses many translation methods, such as, literal translation, free translation, reorganization,amplification and omission, division and conversion. The author explains the application of Nida's functional equivalence in the process of translation by using these translation methods in this text. After this translation, the truster gives the author a positive assessment, and points out some deficiencies of this translation. At the last, the author makes a self-reflection and states the experience and lessons.There are seven chapters in the thesis. Introduction is the first part of this report.The author describes the project in the second part. In chapter three, the author mainly introduces the pre-translation preparation. The author analyzes the guiding theory, that is Nida's functional equivalence, in chapter four. In chapter five, the author mainly introduces the translation process. In chapter six, the author describes the self-assessment and the truster-assessment. Chapter seven is the conclusion part of this report.
