Nowadays, energy has become a growing central issue on a global scale. With the increasing demand for energy, various energy problems, such as energy storage and renewability, lead to the prominent contradiction between supply and demand. In China,a large number of facts such as “electricity shortage” and “rise of the oil price”reveal that energy growth problem has become the “bottleneck” of national economic development. While seeking for its own way of transformation,China should also strengthen exchanges with other countries and draw lessons from valuable experience. Therefore, the translator chooses The Energy Economy--Practical Insight to Public Policy and Current Affairs as the translation material. This book involves both energy economy and American energy policy, and provides strategic suggestions for the development of energy economy in the United States from an academic perspective, which is of great referential significance for China.Firstly, this report begins with a brief description of the content and language features of the original text, followed by the analysis of translation requirements and difficulties.Secondly, under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the translator focuses on analyzing the translation strategies adopted at the lexical level, the syntactic level and the discourse level. At the lexical level, strategies such as extension, annotation and conversion are adopted;at the syntactic level, translation strategies such as inversion, division and change of perspective are mentioned to deal with the differences in expression habits caused by cultural differences between Chinese and English;at the textual level, the translator uses cases and specific analysis to analyze the ways to achieve discourse cohesion from two aspects:grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. In addition, through the analysis of the above three aspects, the translator concludes that the functional equivalence theory isapplicable to the translation practice of energy texts. Finally, the purpose of this translation practice is to arouse people's attention to energy issues and provide some useful advice for China to solve various energy problems. At the same time,it is expected that this report will help relevant practitioners to break through the language barriers and provide references for their research and study.
