| With the continuous deepening and refinement in Chinese research, an increasing attention was paid on localizer study by researchers. Recently, the localizer study for modern Chinese has gotten significant development and an elementarily theoretical system is formed. Nevertheless, the related study in early modern Chinese is still rather insufficient, and just some fragmentary reports are found in corresponding monographs or papers. In the present paper, our localizer study is focused on an excellent, colloquial and short novel, namely “Xing Shi Yan†created in Ming dynasty. It tries to depict comprehensively the localizer system in “Xing Shi Yan†and give a useful insight for localizer study of early modern Chinese, through detailed description and analysis for the localizer function and relevant phenomenon exhibited in “Xing Shi Yanâ€.This paper can be divided six parts:Chapter 1 is the introduction section, which gives major information about “Xing Shi Yan†such as corpus nature, version and research status et al. It also reviewed the study situation of localizers according to nominal, class and numbers of localizers.Chapter 2 presented the form and semantic distribution of single-syllable localizers and the cognitive interpretation was made for some crucial localizers.Chapter 3 summarized special usage of double-syllable localizers based on semantic meaning.Chapter 4 analyzed thoroughly the syntax function and phrase of the localizer, where it primarily focused on situation that the localizer acted as subject, object, adverbial and complement, respectively. In chapter 5, the localizer of “Xing Shi Yan†was compared with some well-known literatures, for instance, “Shi Shuo Xing Yuâ€, “Zhu Tang Jie†and “Hong Long Meng†etc., to study the development of localizers in semantic meaning and syntax.A comprehensive conclusion was made in chapter 6. It showed that the localizer of “Xing Shi Yan†not only inherit the traditional usage of early modern Chinese, but also evolve to modern Chinese. |
