Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of A Purchase & Sales Contract Of An Import & Export Corporation

Since the international economic and trade activities have become so frequent, China is beginning to participate in them actively. In the process of global trade, business contract English has become an indispensable language tool. And we all know, purchase and sales contract is a kind of the business contract, so on the basis of Chinese-foreign trade activity background, we need to translate English purchase and sales contracts into Chinese urgently.The practice study report is based on the purchase and sales contract translation practice, exploring the English-Chinese translation of purchase and sales contracts from the perspective of register theory. Register is the reflection of the context in a certain language, and it is the semantic structure that one context connected by members of the society. These semantic structures explore their features through the grammar and vocabulary. Therefore, different registers have their own specific vocabulary and grammar structures. The translation report aims at demonstrating the application of register theory in the English-Chinese translation of purchase and sales contracts by analyzing the linguistic features of English and Chinese contracts and describing the author’s process of translating an English contract into Chinese as well as the strategies of dealing with difficult problems employed during the process.The practice study report includes six parts. The first part is the introduction; the second part mainly describes the translation project; the third part is the translation process; the fourth part is general introduction of register theory and related research; the fifth part is the translation strategy and skill; and the last part is the conclusion of the whole translation report.The author hopes that through the exploration of problems and methods that should be paid attention to during the translation process, the report can provide inspiration or helpful reference for other translators in the E-C translation of purchase and sales contracts.
