Based on the translation practice of Foreign Devils on the Silk Road, this paper analyzes the translation behavior and translation process. The translated text is a historical novel written by the British writer Peter Hopkirk. The translation of this novel employs "functional equivalence" theory. There are four mainly aspects of "functional equivalence" used by the author in this translation practice, vocabulary equivalence, syntactic equivalence, chapter equivalence and stylistic equivalence. One difficulty of the translation project is how to translate foreign names and sensitive political issues with the guidance of "functional equivalence". A qualified translator demands the following characters:solid language foundation, practical and realistic methods, profound knowledge, professional skills and high sense of responsibility. This translation practice report consists of six parts. The first part is the introduction, which includes the background and meaning of the study. The second part is introduction of translation project, which includes the background and objectives of this translation project and the meaning of retranslation. The third part is introduction and analysis of text, which includes the original description and writer’s introduction. The fourth part is the description of the translation process. The fifth part is research of the translation practice, which mainly includes the analysis of this project by following "functional equivalence" theory. The sixth part is conclusion.
