In ancient times,the Silk Road promoted cultural and economic exchanges between the East and the West.During recent years,China has proposed the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road”and strongly advocated the "Silk Road Economic Belt",aiming at strengthening economic ties,enhancing mutual cooperation and broadening development space among European and Asian nations through the "Belt and Road Initiative,.This translation report is based on "The Beginning of Maritime Silk Road",the first chapter in the second part of the C-E translation project The Silk Road from Beijing Trans-plus Translation Co.,Ltd.Totally,there are 10 thousand Chinese characters in the source text."The Beginning of Maritime Silk Road" is mainly about ancient people's connection with the sea,navigation tools,navigation skills and foreign ancient countries along navigation routes.Firstly,this report analyzes the features of the source text.The source text is written in plain language and the style of narration,so it is easy to understand.It was written according to real history of the Silk Road,the source text is also precise and accurate in writing.Besides,the source text is fully logical for it is arranged in line with time and space sequence.Secondly,this report analyzes the key points and difficulties,including the translation of proper nouns,classical Chinese and rhetorical devices.Under the guidance of the Skopos rule,fidelity rule and coherence rule in Skopos theory,this report discusses translation techniques,including omission,transliteration with annotation,co:nversion,amplification,sentence restructuring,for the translation of proper nouns and classical Chinese;liberal translation for the translation of rhetorical devices.By using appropriate translation techniques and methods,the target text can introduce the development process of Maritime Silk Road,spread Chinese history and Chinese culture to the world.
