Selected Translation Of The Silk Road:A Very Short Introduction (p.68-p.88) From English To Chinese And A Critical Commentary

The project consists of two parts. The first part is the Chinese translation of the selected text, which is taken from the two excerpts of the book The Silk Road:A Very Short Introduction by James A. Millward. The translation is done under the guidance of "dynamic equivalence", a well-known translation theory brought forward by Eugene A. Nida. The second part is a critical commentary. The critical commentary is an analytical report on the translation strategies and approaches employed in the translation of the selected source text from English to Chinese, and it encompasses four sections:introduction to the project, significance of the project, strategies and approaches employed in the translation, and conclusion drawn from the analysis of the translation strategies and methods applied.The project aims to serve as a reference for all those who are interested in the research of the Silk Road and to facilitate readers and researchers who are keen on the Silk Road but cannot comprehend the original text in English. The project can also serve as materials for university professors who intend to set up bilingual Silk-Road-related disciplines and offer bilingual Silk-Road-related courses. In the meantime, the project can also serve as materials for students who are interested in studying bilingual Silk-Road-related courses and act as a reference for translators and college students who major in translation or translation studies. Due to the fact that there has been, to date, no Chinese translation of the selected source text, the translation project is somewhat pioneering. Moreover, the thesis is an analysis of the author’s personal application of the translation strategies and methods utilized in translation of the selected source text. No similar projects or papers can be found.
