This is a translation project report on the first and part of the second chapter of The American Revolution, written by Gordon S. Wood. Gordon S. Wood is an American historian. Also he is a figure of American political history since the end of the 1760s. The original text is mainly about the origin, process of the American Revolution and Republican Reforms, Antislavery, compile of the Federal Constitution and other problems after the American Revolution. The purpose of the text is to introduce the political history view of Gordon S. Wood to Chinese readers. Also it is a supplement to his work:The Radicalism of the American Revolution.The Skopostheorie is the guidance for the translation activity. Skopostheorie pointed that translation is based on the original text and is an action with purpose and aim. And this action must be finished with negotiation. Skopostheorie consists of three rules, namely, the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.Under the guidance of the Skopostheorie, the strategies in historical text translation are elaborated.This report is divided into four parts:the first part is the introduction to the translation project, including the reasons for choosing this text, the purpose and aim of this project, the application of the Skopostheorie to translation and the preparations before translation. The second part is the frame of the Skopostheorie, and the guidance of the Skopostheorie to translation. The third part is translation difficulties, including the translation difficulties on words and sentences. Also the translation methods and strategies, including the strategies on words and sentences. The fourth part is the conclusion, which contains problems and lessons in this project.
