The thesis mainly discusses the anaphora function of zhè( 这) and its accessibility features in modern Chinese. As the representative of demonstrative pronoun, zhè(这)is widely used and studied in modern Chinese. So its existence must be have some motivation and it can be studied from different aspects. Based on the People’s Daily corpus, we use the Accessibility Theory of Ariel and Topicality Theory of Xu Yulong to analyze the accessibility and anaphora resolution of zhè(这)and its accessibility features. Then we find that when used independently,zhè(这) is a high accessibility markers, and when the demonstrative expression is made up of zhè(这), the accessibility is still high.The whole article consists of 6chapters:The first part is introduction, mainly introduces the significance, background,theory and method of the article.The first chapter mainly investigates the syntactic function and the nature of antecedent of zhè(这).In the second chapter, we study the accessibility of zhè(这),on the basis of Accessibility Theory putting forward by Ariel, we conclude that when it is used independently, it is a high accessibility markers.In the third chapter, we use the same method to test the accessibility of demonstrative expressions zhè(这)composing.And the conclusion shows that its accessibility is high no matter it is in what syntactic position.The fourth chapter is a comparison of zhè(这)and cǐ(此), in this part,we try to find out their differences on syntactic functions,combining formation,grammaticalmeanings and distinctive functions,through these comparisons,we attempt to get a conclusion about two words grammatical and pragmatical differences.The fifth chapter reviews the innovation and drawbacks of the whole paper.
