Cigarette packaging design is an art. It aims at not only folding up and protecting the cigarettes, but also reflecting when and where the cigarettes are made, and attracting customers. To understand what kind of design customers like is important. People like traditional culture as well as modern life, which should be considered in cigarette packaging design. There is little research on this area, which results in many bad designs. Compared with wine and tea, cigarette is more popular abroad so a better packaging design will help carry Chinese culture abroad. Therefore, there is a strong need to study how to design good Cigarette packaging. The thesis will give related works on packaging design, and discuss the problems of those works and analyze that art methodology plays an import role in a good design.The thesis will also discuss how to incorporate modern life, traditional culture and local culture with packaging design. More importantly, the thesis will discuss how to apply the new design theory to manufacture inexpensive cigarette boxes that carries plenty of Chinese culture, which will greatly improve the art of packaging design.
