This translation practice report, based on the translation of an article on pedagogy with the title of “TESOL Methods: Changing Tracks, Challenging Trends”, mainly conducts some research on the way to achieve functional equivalence in the translation of academic text. During the process of this translation, I have adopted Nida’s translation theory of “functional equivalence” as a tool to analyze and generalize this translation practice in terms of “vocabulary equivalence”, “sentence equivalence” and “discourse equivalence”.Firstly, I mainly introduce the background of the task, the main points of the article on pedagogy and the translation theory I have selected. Secondly, the comprehension and expression of the original text in the process of translation are illustrated, and the translation difficulties as well as their corresponding solutions are described one by one. Additionally, I introduce the functional equivalence theory, the way to achieve functional equivalence in the translation as well as translation strategies or skills to be employed for achieving functional equivalence. Thanks to this translation practice research, I have learned about characteristics of academic text translation and its relevant translation strategies. Meanwhile, I am convinced of the importance of translation theories in the process of translation practice. At the end of the report, I sum up the deficiencies of this practice and express the prospect of future research in this field.
