In 1980’s, a revival of China culture suddenly appeared out of inhibition, despotism and manipulative abuse of humans. Since the same era, Chinese contemporary art also started a‘gorgeous adventure’. This report will discuss that how public accepts China contemporary art and the difference between the publicity of art and public artwork(art in public place). In other words, this type of artwork does not represent the public’s will and how public realize it.Therefore, in some aspects, the publicity of art, in fact, can be understood as an issue of sociology of art. However, the Art Sociology study is a field of wide range research and rapid development, so regarding the art under a circumstance of Chinese contemporary cultural context, an important question which is the publicity and individuality of art will be discussed in this report.What is the publicity of contemporary art?Does demonstrating artwork in public place equals the publicity of art?How to understand public?Is publicity merely the influence to societies?Can individuals get involved art activities?Is publicity only standard of determining an artwork?Are we qualified to discuss talents and masterworks?Is art only a game for a small number of people?Is individuality expression of contemporary of art, for highlighting some artist’s individuality, or integrating contemporary cultural life more deeply, additionally, can this individuality interest public to get involved?This report will attempt to make clear the operation rules and inherent law of Chinese contemporary art based on its two properties which are publicity and individuality.Furthermore, discussing the issue of lack of publicity of Chinese contemporary art and what the perplexity of this lack brings to Chinese contemporary art. Thus, the contradictory relation within Chinese contemporary art development between publicity and individuality can be found out and pointed out, and a possible theoretical solution could be provided.
