As a common oral phenomenon, discourse markers enjoy a high frequency in common use. Discourse markers refer to small language fragments, dependent from sentence structure which are free from any truth meanings or conceptual meanings. They lay great emphasis on pragmatic functions. This paper analyzes the raw materials from Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions based on the Relevance Theory, Cohesion Theory, Conversational Implicature Theory and Speech Act Theory. The main part classifies the discourse markers used by these foreign students with a focus of studying "zhege/nage" and "ranhou", the two dimensions-nationality and gender as an addition. Then we analyze the common errors and reasons for such errors, designing to make some practical teaching suggestions for Chinese classes. The whole paper is consisted of six parts.Chapter One is the introduction. This paper expounds the part subjecting to cause and the object of this study. Make a sum up and list corpora source and research methods.Chapter Two is the research overview. This part classifies former achievements both home and abroad.Chapter Three is theory construction. Constructing the theoretical framework for this paper including definition, characteristics and functions of discourse markers.Chapter Four is the quantitative analysis of the raw materials. Classify the discourse markers used by these foreign students with a focus of studying zhege/nage and ranhou, the two dimensions-nationality and gender as an addition, then analyzes the common errors and reasons for such errors.Chapter Five is the suggestions for teaching methods, including classification, real situation, phase teaching and redundancy avoidance.Chapter Six is the conclusion. Summarize the whole paper and show the inadequate as well as further improvements.
