As the society advances, parents are paying more and more attention to their children’s education, especially preschool education. Translating academic literature on preschool education in multicultural classroom can be conductive to undergraduate students who are getting ready to become preschool teachers, practicing teachers who want to gain new ideas, and anyone else interested in learning about preschool education. Teaching Young Children in Multicultural Classrooms:Issues, Concepts, and Strategies is a book which comprehensively introduces various aspects of preschool education in multicultural classrooms, including relevant theories, suggestions about classroom activities and related resources. This book is extremely suitable for preschool teachers. In this report, the author discusses the translation varieties used in the translation of chapters two to five of the original text. Firstly, this report introduces the translation task, the source text and translation purposes. Then it analyzes the structure and language features of the source text, on the basis of which the translation variation theory is selected as its guidance and the translation procedures are worked out. During the translation process, the author found that translators need to explain or delete some information of the source text according to the target readers’specific needs so as to maximize the value of the original text in the target language society. Therefore, in the third chapter, the author of the report gives some examples of employing the translation variation theory and mainly discusses two translation varieties——explanatory translation and selective translation. It is found that to produce high quality translations, translators should be qualified in both two languages and such abilities as comparison, analysis, selection and language organization. In addition, translators should take the target readers’ expectations into consideration during the whole translation process.
