With the reform and opening up, a large number of foreign children’s literary works have been introduced to China, therefore, more and more scholars pay attention to the translation study on excellent foreign children’s literary works. As a practice report on English to Chinese translation, this dissertation takes the foreign children’s novel Esperanza Rising as its translation text and primarily chooses the translation of characters as its case analysis to discuss how to reflect the characters’image in the translation of foreign children’s literary works. This dissertation analyzes the translation difficulties as well as possible coping solutions through the application of Ren Rongrong’s children’s literature translation ideas. The author explains the features in the translation of characters in children’s novel from the translation of figures’appearance, dialogue and action such three perspectives and studies possible approaches to solve the problems existing in the translation process. In addition to other translation skills, the author mainly uses translating in the contextual amplification, free translation as well as the application of four-character words and reduplicated words to analyze the translated version, aiming at getting a fair good version. The theoretical support of this practice report:the theory of Ren Rongrong’s children’s literature translation ideas that is children’s literature translation should be based on children and he emphasizes the three principles that is, vividness, colloquialism and creativeness in order to make the target language readers gain similar feeling as source language readers. Children’s novel is written for children, therefore, the main purpose of the children’s literature translation is accessible to children and makes children willingly accept. We should not only consider the expressiveness and fluency of the translated version, but also translate the features of children’s language as well as in line with expressions used in children’s language.Through the description of the translation process and case analysis, the author can draw the following conclusions:firstly, translation of children’s novel is different from translation of adult’s novel, because translators need to consider children’s psychological features and language competence. Secondly, translators should accumulate various translation features of different kinds of styles in order to make the translated works be accessible to target language readers.
