A Study On Sui Yin Man Lu

Sui Yin Man Lu was written by Chen Shichong,whose given name is “Boren”and who was styled as “Suiyin”. Shichong’s father,Chen Yu, the author of Cang Yi Hua Yu,whose given name is“Zhongwen”and who was known as“Cangyi”,had served in the lecture room of Eastern Palace as a officer whose duty is to record cultural and historical accounts of past events in Li-zong period, also had served as a poet who write poem according to the emperor’s order in Ji-xi Temple.At the age of eighteen,Shichong went into the Imperial Palace with his father and served as storytelling in the lecture room of Eastern Palace while writing for Li-zong and Du-zong.His poems and essays were so appreciated by Du-zong that he could replace ex-Chengxinlang and serve as a official of Huangcheng Department for emperor’s extending favours and personal consent.Later because Xue Ci which was written by his father teased Jia Sidao who was a dignitary and then Jia ordered the Secretariat to unmake his position,Shichong served parents back hometown.In 1273,he went to the Ministry of Rites to ask for the original grace and then assumed the office of Chengxinlang,reinforced as a beadle of the Cabinet Door.Two years later,his father died,Shichong put himself into landscape after then. In the Yuan Dynasty,Shichong was no longer an official,but writing Sui Yin Man Lu.According to the brief biographical sketch of Chen Suiyin which was written by Zhou Duanli,Sui Yin Man Lu originally has twelve volumes and a preface which was composed by Lin Shi on earth,but now it just has five volumes while without Lin Shi’s preface.Throughout the whole book,it mainly records contemporary notes on poets and poetry, the stories of the Southern Song Dynasty were recorded especially in detail.The author worked in Imperial Palace,so he knew many court’s stories and etiquette system.Those events in the book,such as ceremony of the King’s Birthday in the Zichen Palace,class twenty-four,the name and amount of the woman who was called Straight Book Club Lady,child class clothing,the records of food which were given to the crown prince from the emperor,the guard of honor when the emperor out to participate in worship,thirty-two official ranks,the ceremony of the crown prince about paying respects and reading and so on,which never have been mentioned in the history,have a very high historical data value.While these entries, recording in the second volume as Emperor Ping of Han and his wife,the wife of crown prince Minhuai of Jin and Li Zhaoyi who took their own life because they couldn’t put up with insults,Emperor Qin II,Emperor Huai and Min of Jin,Emperor Yang of Sui, Emperor Zhaozong of Tang were killed and,Emperor of Jin was insulted when he migrated northward,which were used to express the miserable condition of minsters’ surrender and the Emperor’s hazing in the Southern Song Dynasty and the reason for failure,have a very high historical value.In addition,the comment and analysis about the previous poetry in this book,such as it’s commentary about Shi Jing or poems of Tang Dynasty in the frist volume, is really insightly and has a very high literary value.Prepared on the basis of “size up people by his simple devices to discuss the world and background”,this paper would excavate the value of Sui Yin Man Lu from two aspects of history and literature. First of all, through sorting out a variety of historical data, it makes so detailed and credible description about the author and the version of Sui Yin Man Lu that it conforms to the basis. Secondly, with the return of the creative context of Sui Yin Man Lu, it discusses the author’s historical view and literary view under the background of the late Song Dynasty.
