A Study Of Jade Eagle Sculpture Modeling Language In Hongshan Culture

Hongshan Culture with its profound cultural connotation and the wide realm of art has left a deep imprint in the Chinese art history. It also produced a profound influence on the later development of jade in China. The unique charm of Hongshan Culture lies in the large numbers of unearthed delicate original jade and its historical and cultural research value.The few unearthed jade carved eagle has its unique artistic appeal among numerous animal types of Hongshan Culture jade. There is an inseparable relationship between the jade eagle with other jade in Hongshan culture and the development of the Chinese nation. Concise and fluent Hongshan jade eagle and other animal type jade modeling is the typical characteristics of the Hongshan Culture jade. The carving styles are realistic or exaggerated, round or relief, independent or composite, stereo or planar, pursuing the spirit of carving object and the expression of artistic conception. The title of the present study is “A Linguistic Study of Jade Eagle Sculpture in Hongshan Culture,” which with its sculpture professional advantage aims to do a calm and objective research and analysis on the modeling language within it. The purpose of this study is for the starting point, from its modeling language as the breakthrough point, with an overall observation to explain the artistic characteristics and regularity of Hongshan Culture jade eagle, and discusses the spiritual connotation, artistic expression and its influence on the aesthetic value of sculpture modeling language at the present time.Based on the above analysis, the study concludes that religious concepts, understanding of the nature, and emphasis on the meaning and emotional expression of the Hongshan craftmen determine the simple but vigirous, concise but general Hongshan jade eagle modeling language features. These language features and the characteristics of the times promote the formation of spiritual temperament of jade eagle and other Hongshan Culture jade which is different from the primitive arts in other Chinese regions.
