Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920 s in France.Inspired by the psychoanalytical discoveries of Freud, surrealism rejected reason and logic aiming at absolutely freedom of artistic creation. Compared with poetry and art,the development of surrealism sculpture was much more slowly, because of the difficulties in using the visual shape to express the virtual space. Using the their rich imagination, the sculptor twisted and transformed the object on the basis of respecting the regulation of sculpture, in the end they invented some imaginative and fantastic forms and at the same time bring the absurd to the sculpture. This dissertation will focus on the sculpture language and analysis some typically sculptures in order to summarize the five main features of surrealism sculpture, that is the import of absurd, presentation and representation, the symbolism of objectification, contradictory space and poetic context. Bringing these free and diverse courses to my creative practice, I combine the materiality of sculpture with the imagination to express the childish emotions in the Jimmy’s cartoons and Hayao Miyazaki’s films, which make their art become a surreal realm full of innocence, childishness and plain, also arouse the remote memory of people.
