This paper is based on the theories and methods of contrastive linguistics, guided by the psychological linguistics to explore the various characteristics of English and Chinese imperative sentences under the pragmatic functions. The verbal functions of the imperative sentence are rich and colorful. Analysis of the interpersonal function developed by the imperative sentences which in natural language from the perspective of macro and micro, revealing the close relationships between the imperative sentences and human, also the interpersonal relationship. Contrast of the English and Chinese imperative sentences from the syntactic structure, semantic characteristics and pragmatic functions, and exploring of the similarities and differences between the English and Chinese imperative sentences, also the causes how to produce. Then further explores the essence and the interpersonal function of the imperative relationship. The paper includes five parts; the specific contents are as follow:The first chapter is introduction; put forward the purpose and significance of selected topic, introduction of the present research status of English and Chinese imperative sentences and the field of comparison between English and Chinese language, and explanation of the source of corpus. Ensure the research range and method under the contrastive linguistics theory. Through consulting related books and articles, and understanding the study and development state of domestic and international imperative sentences. The previous research results provide the theoretical basis for the paper.The second chapter compares the definition classification of English and Chinese imperative sentences.The third, four chapters embark the contrast between English and Chinese imperative sentences from three aspects of syntax, semantics and pragmatics.The fifth chapter compares the interpersonal function of English and Chinese imperative sentences.The sixth chapter summarizes the full text.
