Research On The Construction Of Teachers’ Image Based On Movies After The Reform And Opening Up

The theme movie using the teachers as the subject is an important external medium of constructing the public image of teachers. Teachers’ image building in movie medium has changed a lot before and after the reform and opening up, mainly from satisfying the political needs to gradually returning to the teachers and education itself, which mainly attributed to the change of political and economic environment, the guidance of cultural values and the promotion of teacher-themed literature. This thesis, by interpreting teacher-themed movies after 30 years of the reform and opening up, probes into the main characteristics and problems of those movies in constructing the image of teachers, and puts forward targeted advice for constructing teachers’ image keeping pace with the times. In summary, the teacher-themed movies since reform and opening up policies have shaped three kinds of teachers’ images: noble teachers, engineer-oriented teachers and teachers longing for quick win and instant gratification, all of which reflects a series of characteristics of the time and also reflect the tendency of humanization. The constructed teachers generally have some personalities: professional dedication, love, patience and endurance, is also the contemporary audience’s role expectation to the teachers. The movie medium uses a lot of movie skills to highlight the image of teachers during the production process. In addition, the design of shocking plots and inspirational story lines, the using of real performance, unique perspective and narrative methods are utilized to express the image of teachers.Some serious and obvious problems are also present for decades in shaping the image of teachers, for example, single character, weak image, boundary role, non-specialized image,etc. Movies have gradually become an integral part of our daily life. In order to further construct the image of teachers keeping pace with the times, to further expand and fulfill the active role of movie medium in constructing the teachers’ image, to direct the movie audiences’ correct cognition in terms of teachers’ image in the new era, and to call for more attention to teachers group, it is suggested that teachers’ image constructing should pay attention to three dimensions, by combining the professional image with the social image, to finally relocate teachers’ status. Meanwhile, it is helpful to introduce commercial movie production model in order to improve the influence of this kind of movie.
