Teachers’professional development is a process in which teachers improve their professional standard, teaching efficiency and learning results by conducting various activities and learning. English teachers’professional development is aiming at improving teachers’professional knowledge and theories and upgrading their teaching skills and language proficiency as well. Academic and research activity is one of the effective ways for this purpose. The Heterogeneous Class Activity (HCA) is a new and popular activity in the Middle School. During this activity, different teachers in the same grade use different teaching methods and instructions to teach their students with the same teaching content and aims. After the activity, all the teachers discuss and make comment on the class together to improve every teacher’s teaching ability and students’writing achievement.The purpose of the research is aiming at exploring the effect of improving teachers’teaching ability and students’writing achievement by means of CHA.10 teachers and 60 students of Wuhai No.10 Middle School ire selected as research subjects. The Heterogeneous Class Activity has been implemented for more than five months in the experimental class. The-esearch questions are as follows:1. Can the teachers’teaching methods be improved effectively after implementing HCA? 2. Can the teachers’ self-reflection be improved by HCA? 3. Can the HCA make the classroom instruction diversify? 4. Can the senior high school students’writing scores be improved after HCA?In the process of the research, two surveys of questionnaire are carried out and two tests being analyzed. According to data from the analysis of SPSS software, a conclusion is drawn:l.the teaching methods of the 10 teachers taking part in the HCA have been improved; 2.The teachers’ability of self-reflection has been improved after commenting the class and discussing together; 3. The teachers’classroom instruction has been diversified after learning from each other; 4. After the activity, the students are more and more interested in writing compositions and their writing achievement is higher than before. The HCA makes teachers realize that different teachers have different teaching methods, which have different teaching effects. So the teachers should make full use of the chance to share their own opinions with each other and learn from each other, so that every teacher can improve their teaching level.
