The Coupiets Art Application In Du Fu’s Modern Style Poems

Du Fu, who worked out 1051 poems including 138 quatrains, 778 octaves and 135 pailv in his whole life, is a great realism poet in china’s history. Apparently, D u Fu’s works, a milestone in poetry development, are surely worth our deep research and study. Nowadays, there are so much research in the academic community regarding Du Fu’s modern style poems, but most of the research is started from points of the contents and art methods applied in Du Fu’s works while the quantity and position of the sentences are neglected.On the basis of full analysis to the contents of Du Fu’s poems, this thesis, instructed by the theory of Couplet’s Symbolic created by GuTian Gingyi and the Poetics Theory created by Zhu Guangqian, describes the position and quantity of the couplets applied in Du Fu’s each poem and discusses the character and model of the couplets to supplement the relative research in both theory and practice for people’s understanding of the art values, appreciating and full comments of Du Fu’s works.This thesis consists of three parts. Part 1 which is the introduction mainly describes domestic research status regarding Du Fu’s Modern Style Poems, the basic theory of this thesis, research methods and the creation. Part 2 is the text part, chapter one of which discusses the position and quantity of the couplets, the subtle construction of the rich imagination, artistic conception developed from vain to solid and, at last, studies the reasons for couplet model application and readers’ comments to the couplets. Chapter 2 of part 2 mainly analyzes the position and quantity of the couplets applied in octaves which contain 4 rhythm & 8 lines, imagination with density spacing, refrainment and expression of author’s emotion. By the end of chapter 2, the imagination applied in the couplets, epitome and innovation will be discussed. Chapter 4 mainly researches on the position and quantity of the couplets applied in the long octaves, author’s writing sketch with combination of complete &loose and extension & relaxation, and author’s creating skills and the reason why the author worked so many long octaves in his twilight years.Part 3, conclusion of this thesis, generally describes the couplets art applied in the Du Fu’s Modern Style Poems and positively confirms its value for research. Finally, this thesis wants to prove that Du Fu’s Modern Style Poems with his unique pattern and succeed in the couplet art by analyzing the position and quantity of the couplets application.
