A Comparative Study On Entering-tone Codas Of Jilin Leishi And Various Rhymes

Jilin Leishi was written by Sun Mu when he was sent to the capital city of Goryeo-Kaekyeong, as an envoy’s retinue of Northern Song Dynasty. Completed in1103, the book used Song Dynasty Chinese to mark the Korean language pronunciation in the "Korea dialect" part. It provided valuable historical data for the studies on both Medieval Korean language and Chinese phonetics in Song Dynasty and therefore has long attracted considerable attention from Chinese and foreign scholars.Based on previous studies, this thesis focuses on the "Korea dialect" part and tries to analyze the phonological features and changes of Medieval Korean language and Song Dynasty Chinese by comparing the entering-tone codas between Medieval Korean language and Various Rhymes. The edition of Jilin Leishi referred to in this thesis is Shun Zhi edition compiled by Tao Zongyi, and it has also been compiled in Shuofu one hundred and twenty, with altogether355vocabulary items.This thesis is divided into the following parts:The first chapter introduces the research objective, research methods and research area as well as previous studies.The second chapter first analyze the355vocabulary items of Jilin Leishi "Korea dialect" part phonologically and then categorizes into the pronunciation table of comparison between Medieval Korean language and Various Rhymes. The researcher refers to the Yu Changton’s I-Jo language dictionary to analyze the Medieval Korean words. Combined with Various Rhymes, the researcher transcribes each vocabulary item in Jilin Leishi "Korea dialect"part according to rhyme group, fanqie sound glosses, initial consonant and four tones.The third chapter probes into the correspondence of entering-tone codas between Medieval Korean language and Song Dynasty Chinese, based on the pronunciation table of comparison between Medieval Korean language and Various Rhymes. It first studies the correspondence between the entering-tone codas of Various Rhymesand the stop codas of Medieval Korean language, which consists of-Then it investigates the reason of the correspondence.The fourth chapter first studies the correspondence between the entering-tone codas of Various Rhymes and the non-stop codas of Medieval Korean language,△) and Then it investgates the reason of the correspondence.The last chapter summarizes the research and points out the limitations. F rom the perspective of historical comparative linguistics, the current study infer s the phonological features and the diachronic changes of the entering-tone cod as between Medieval Korean language and Song Dynasty Chinese.
