This report is based on the author’s translation practice of Revision andSelf-Editing for Publication which is written by James Scott Bell from the perspectiveof techniques for transforming first draft into a marketable novel. The author’stranslation task is Chapter9-11and part of Exercise in the last part of this book,which gives an account of the writing knacks.The report is comprised of five parts. The first part is a sketchy presentation ofthe translation project, covering pre-translation stage, the translation process as wellas the hardship that the author has encountered in the translation project. Then, thesecond part is a sketchy presentation of the book and its writer with respect to thebackground and contents. The third part mainly deals with the functional equivalencetheory of Eugene A. Nida and analyzes the necessity of its adhibition in the translationtask. After which, the author discusses the application of functional equivalence in thefourth part. In the end, the last part summarizes the whole process of translation.Through the discussion and conclusion of the translation theories, the authorknows better about the application of Functional Equivalence, and hopes to make thisexperience exert profound impact on the similar translation work.
