Traditional handicrafts are representatives of folk culture, and crystallizations of nationalwisdom. In handicraft industry era, traditional handicrafts played important roles in practice andaesthetics. However, the advent of industrialization severely impacted the development oftraditional handicrafts. A lot of traditional handicrafts have already become unique skills duringthe long term of inheriting from master to apprentice. Along with the enrichment of material life,people gradually realized the irreplaceable advantages of traditional handicrafts. Hence, theinheritance and protection of traditional handicrafts become the focus of attention.Japan has abundant intangible cultural heritages. Firstly, this thesis elaborates the value,significance of inheritance, status in quo and existing problems of traditional handicrafts in detail.Combining with own experience, the author believes the future of traditional handicrafts is bright.Then the origin and state of development of Chinese and Japanese traditional handicrafts arecompared. Japanese Bingata dying is analyzed as a typical example of Japanese traditionalhandicrafts to explore its development, process feature, cultural connotation and so on. Theinheritance, protection and state of development of Bingata dying are also studied. Based on this,we extend our research and aim at the inheritance and protection of the entire traditionalhandicrafts. We learn about the rapidly rising experiences of traditional handicrafts, exploreactively how to create new artistic styles based on tradition, and expand the connotation of thesestyles. The advanced experiences, existing problems and dilemma are summarized in the thesis.Combining own thinking, the author points out several aspects we should pay attention to whenstudying Japanese experiences. In the mean time, the author accomplished a whole craft process of Bingata dying and mixed traditional handicraft into modern household products referencingprevious experiences and adding modern design philosophy to shine the old craft. Finally, thisthesis points out that the deep meaning of this study is to stimulate the development of Chinesetraditional handicrafts by studying the rapidly rising reason, developing process of Japanesetraditional handicrafts and Bingata dying.
