With the staggering advances in the Internet, communication and transportation technology, the international economic and trade activities on the globe have become progressively frequent. Hence, Business English (BE for short), especially the interpretation of BE has become very important. It’s known to us all that the practice of interpretation is based on its theories. To date, though a slew of progress has been made regarding the study of interpretation in China, we still have some shortcomings in this area and there is still much room left for improvement. The shortcomings are embodied as follows:China’s interpretation is mostly based on the interpretation experience itself, lacking its sufficient theoretical support. Since that’s the status quo of China’s Interpretation Field, let alone the status of the interpretation of BE, which is part of the Interpretation Field. Consequently, it’s imperative that we should energetically dig into the theory of that field. The Relevance Theory, put forward by the French scholar Sperber and the British scholar Wilson, is a brand-new theory relating to the speech communication. It explicates the process of the speech communication by means of the’ostensive-inferential’ mechanism. The Relevance Theory is said to have caused a buzz among the academic circle and numerous scholars have spoken highly of it the moment it was introduced. The Relevance Theory is presently widely used to study Translation, Interpretation, Rhetorics and so on.The thesis makes a study of the interpretation of BE from the perspective of the Relevance Theory, elaborates on its process and puts forward some strategies for the practice of interpreting BE, with the aim of helping interpreters improve their level of interpreting BE and the teaching quality of the interpretation of BE course. |
