At the beginning of this century, task based teaching method has been introduced toEnglish Teaching in our country. Many foreign studies prove that task based teaching methodplays an important role in cultivating students’ learning interest in learning, enhancing thestudents’ learning ability, promoting students comprehensive quality all-round development.However, the task-based teaching method is still not widely been effectively used in Englishteaching in China. How to combine the theory of task-based teaching and classroom teachingeffectively, thereby improving the efficiency of teaching, developing students’ ability, toimprove the quality of students, which has been of great concern and discussion.At present, China’s English teaching, including the English Teaching for non-EnglishMajors in higher vocational colleges, with a special focus on cultivating training andimproving students’ reading skills, but the effect is not very satisfactory. Therefore, thisarticle attempts to discuss the specific application and feasibility of task based teachingmethod in English Reading Teaching, and trying to help students overcome the fearpsychology of reading, generate interest in English reading, so as to help them improve theirreading speed and comprehension/understanding ability.Task-based teaching in language teaching in China is still in its infancy/in the initialstage, there are many problems, such as the grasp of the degree of task difficulty, have yet tobe further testing and research. The outlook of the task-based teaching is bright, with itscontinuous popularization and application in the field of language teaching in China, thetask-based teaching method that can conform in line with the Chinese language teaching andmeet the needs of different levels of teaching will emerge as the times require.This thesis aims to explore effectiveness and feasibility of the task based teachingmethod in the English reading teaching in vocational college. The author freely selected twonon-English major classes, the experiment lasts18weeks. A hundred freshmen of theChengde Nursing Vocational College took part in the experiment,50students in experimentalgroup and50students in control group. By the means of taking questionnaire and test tocollect relevant data, and the data analysis was analyzed by Excel software. The results of data analysis indicate that task-based teaching method is superior to the traditional teachingmethod, improving the students’ reading ability in English and use English forcommunication at the same time, the learning interest of the students also will besignificantly improved.
