A Study On Xu Zhongxing’s Poetics

Xu Zhongxing had another name—Zi Yu, and called by people as Long Wan andTian Mu Shan Ren. He lived in changxin (now Zhe Jiang province), and was aprimary member in “houqizi” party. There are21rolls of Mr.tianmu collection and6rolls of QingLuoguan poetry collection left. Retro,as the guiding light for “houqizi”,is also the primary thought of poetry of Xu zhongxing.The main object to be studiedin this paper is the retro poetry of Xu zhongxing.And there are three questions wouldbe discussed: First, Xu zhongxing’sfriends and relationship of literature; Second,Xuzhongxing’s retropoetry;Finally,characteristic of Xu zhongxing’spoetry.We try toreveal the connection and status of Xu zhongqing in the “houqizi” party by answeringthe first question. The retro poetry part will discuss the difference of poetry ideabetween Xu zhongqing and “houqizi” party despite their similarity. The poetryCharacteristics part main focus on the relation between retro idea and poetry creation.The social intercourse part. Firstly, we confirm that Xu zhongxing is one of themajor member in “houqizi” party. Secondly, after discussion, we concluded that Xuzhongxing made his poetry retro during the times when he travel and compose withhis friends and proposed that “the best poetry in kaiyuan reign title and best essay inhang dynasty”. Finally, we can rank the different friendship between Xu zhongxingand other member of “houqizi” from his intercourse experience.The retro poetry part. Although the “houqizi” party advocate retro idea, everymember place emphasis on different ancient people to follow. There many ancientpoets that Xu zhongxing follow, such as: old style from Cao Wang, modern style fromLi Du, the rest from Dali.The poetry Characteristics part.Since he took in nutrition from different style ofpoetry in different times, Xu zhongxing develop his own poetry characteristicincluding “classical”,“elegant”,“magnificant” and “fresh”.The “classical” feature hasthings to do with the epic poetry of Dufu and also his gentle and cultivated personality,loyalty to friendship and sense of social responsibility; his poetry becomes elegant byfollowing Cao Wang old style poetry and the “old19poetry”; magnificent byfollowing the typical style of poetry in the flourishing Tang dynasty; fresh and elegantfrom prevalent poetry in Da li.
