The ancient Huizhou region boasts both natural beauty and profound culture, and the rise and fall of Huizhou merchants is also highly relevant in modern society. This report is based on the translation of two Chinese journal articles on Huizhou culture and Huizhou merchants, namely A Brief Review of Huizhou Merchants, Huizhou Culture and Their Contemporary Significance and The Enlightenment of the Rise and Fall of Huizhou Merchants for China’s Modern Corporate Administration. Peter Newmark’s theory of semantic translation and communicative translation is taken as the theoretical basis to solve the difficulties met in the translation process. According to the practical application of the theory in the translation, the report respectively analyzes the strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation and also takes typical examples from the source texts to explain the effectiveness of the two strategies. Besides, the translation strategies and translation methods discussed in the report can also be adopted to cope with problems encountered in translating other texts.
