As all nations attach increasing importance to soft power, international academic exchanges are now on the sharp rise. Despite the fact that they’re many a ways of such kind of exchanges, thesis translation still remains the most convenient and most effective way. Hence, thesis translation is one of the focuses in the academic circles. Yet due to language barriers and cultural differences, difficulties in translation are abundant. A close examination of translated papers may show you that mistakes and deviation are by no means uncommon. Though the importance of translation theories to thesis translation has already come within the spotlight in the academic sphere, various reasons led to the failure of setting up a system of effective thesis translation theories. This is also one of the reasons creating the bottleneck that impedes the improvement of the quality of paper translation.Targeting the above-mentioned problems, this paper analyzes two papers, On Significance of Celebritizing Dubbers and On Celebrity-effect on Consumers’Psychology, and summarizes the skills and strategies of translating theses on the basis of the functional equivalence theories of Eugene Nida. The first chapter introduces the background and analyzes the source text. In chapter two, relevant translation theories, functional equivalence in particular, are introduced as the theoretical framework. Then the paper explains the characteristics of thesis translation owing to the structure and language features unique to theses. Specific cases are also studied to further prove the soundness of the skills and strategies. In the end, the paper summarizes the skills useful to thesis translation. |
