With the economic and political development of the world, the exchanges between countries and regions in the fields of politics, economy, culture as well as science and technology become more and more frequent. As countries become more and more interdependent with each other, every country needs to learn experience and expertise from other countries. In that way, translation has become an important means in international communication.This is a translation report on the translation of Reducing Food Loss and Waste, a working paper of FAO’s research project,-written jointly by World Resources Institute and United Nations Environment Program. It shows the status quo of food loss and waste around the world, the definitions of food loss and waste, the scale of the problem, potential benefits of reducing food loss and waste and possible approaches and recommendations to solve it.The main contents of this translation project report are divided into four parts: Part One introduces the background of the translation project and significance of the project. Part Two elaborates the project description, including the content, language style and the structure of the source text as well as preparation before translation. Part Three is an analysis of translation process, including the translation theory adopted, translation objective to be achieved, the key points of translation, the difficulties that the translator has met during the translation process, translation methods and techniques adopted. The translation theory adopted is Reiss’s text typology. The key points are translation of organization names and diagrams. The difficulties are long sentence translation and the maintenance of language style of the working paper. The translation methods adopted are conversion, inversion and division. Part Four ends with the lessons, enlightenment and unsolved problems in the translation project. Among these four parts, the key goes to Part Three.This translation process is guided by Reiss’s Text Typology. This translation material is an informative text, which is content-focused. The translator tries to convey the information of the source text accurately with clear and concise language and try to keep the target text coherent, smooth and readable.
