Collections of Shanghai Museum-Bamboo Slips of Chu I, a masterpiece published by Shanghai Chinese Classics Publishing House in2001, has ignited waves of enthusiasm in the research of a variety of fields covering philology, history, philosophy and literature at home and abroad. Accordingly, character interpretation as the foundation for research in various fields will remain as the focus of research on the Bamboo Slips of Chu for a long time on.This thesis consists of preface, body and a natural conclusion. In the preface, there is a literature overview of research in related fields in addition to a brief introduction to Confucius’Poetics, Silk Court Dress and On Temperament, the three articles in Collections of Shanghai Museum--Bamboo Slips of Chu I. The body of this thesis offers an in-depth interpretation of the characters in the first three volumes of Collections of Shanghai Museum---Bamboo Slips of Chu I, which are classified into fourteen volumes according to the order adopted in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, a classic Chinese works interpreting ancient Chinese characters and words. After a complete list of shape, possible formation based hereon and origin of each character, the author also makes an attempt to interpret the connotation of all the characters in Collections of Shanghai Museum---Bamboo Slips of Chu I with a full adoption of research findings by other scholars. The third part of the thesis offers a natural conclusion of this research.
