Based on previous studies of appellations in modern Chinese, the sociolinguistics methods of statistics and induction were adopted to analyze all of the appellations appeared in front-page columns of<China Youth Daily> from1st Jan.2005to1st Jan.2014. In otherwise, in order to highlight its contemporaneity, corpus from1st Mar.2014and1st May.2014were also added. The system of appellations would be analyzed in the following text.Chapter One mainly depicted the definition, research status of appellations, and meanwhile analyzed research methods and purpose of this paper. The study of appellations still has a long way to go. A large proportion of studies focused on daily spoken language, lacking study on appellations of newspapers. So this paper is of great significance.Chapter Two, in details, depicted the definition of simple appellations. Simple appellations were divided into name, pronoun, and common nouns. Among it, the category name was also divided into four categories:simple surname; simple given name; prefix or suffix of surname or given name. Pronoun was divided into common pronoun; reflexive pronoun; particular subject appellations. Common nouns were divided into four categories:rank; relatives; utility category; feature category.Chapter Three introduced the definition of combined appellations, which included appellations with "de" structure; defined attributive appellations; combination of two appellations; combinations of three appellations; combinations of four appellations. Among them, combination of two appellations included name-rank; name-utility; name-feature; demonstrative pronoun and quantifier-rank; demonstrative pronoun and quantifier-utility; demonstrative pronoun and quantifier-feature; feature-rank; rank-utility.Chapter Four used the method of historical comparative-linguistics. First, changes of ten years appellations were analyzed. Second, appellations of<China Youth Daily> were compared with daily spoken language. At last, the differences of appellations between<China Youth Daily> and<Wenhui News> were analyzed and explored its inner reasons.Chapter Five concluded the contributions of short comings of this paper.As a kind of important media, newspaper has taken an essential part to explore system of appellations. Therefore, it is quite meaningful to do the research on the system and its changes of appellations from<China Youth Daily>.
